QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” — Howard Thurman

THRIVE MARKET GIVES BACK.
|
The story.
We at Morning Chalk Up believe that a giving community is a growing community, which is why we so often write about the generosity of others.
So in comes Thrive Market, which is basically an online Whole Foods for a lot less, making organic food more affordable for families who make a regular salary. But what you probably don’t know is they’ve got a program designed to give back.
The deets.
It’s called Thrive Gives.
Everytime someone like you and me purchases an annual membership to Thrive Market — think Costco — they donate a membership to a low-income family, veteran, teacher, or student. On top of these free memberships, they also offer free educational content to their Thrive Gives members like free shopping lists and videos on how to shop and eat healthy on a budget.
All told, they’ve donated hundreds of thousands of memberships.
It gets better.
Yes, way better. Today is Giving Tuesday and we want to help get you involved. Anyone who buys an annual membership today will get $60 of free groceries plus free shipping, and Thrive will also give one membership away to someone who needs it. It’s a win-win.

Roundup — Photo of the weightlifting platform for the 2017 IWF worlds. A recent Men’s Wearhouse commercial was filmed at Emily Bridgers’ box CrossFit Terminus. Thuri
Helgadottir hits a 187 pound snatch ahead of the 2017 IWF worlds, the only CrossFit Games athlete competing. Lydia Valentin squats 375 pounds for 3 reps.
Sara Sigmundsdottir Breaks Rib, Withdraws From Dubai Fitness Championships — “There had been some pain in my shoulder blade ever since the ‘Games.’ In recent weeks the pain started to grow…Then last week something happened during a training session…I decided to go to Iceland and see my doctor and physio to get this properly checked out. A couple of X-rays and MRI scans later it was determined that my first rib is broken. The pain was so unbearable because the tight muscles that are protecting the rib were hitting a bundle of nerves with all the swelling around the break and that made it so that
for a few days it was even hard for me to breathe. This is just a wall that I need to climb over and I have already started it because today I am already feeling so much better…Unfortunately this changes my plans, I wont be competing in Dubai and it will take the next 6-8 weeks for me to fully recover.”
Editor’s Note: Yesterday, we misidentified five-time CrossFit Games masters athlete Shellie Eddington as getting engaged; it was her daughter Katie Edington.
7 Things Stacie Tovar is Thankful For (Full Post) —
-
In my thirties, I can do all the things physically that I could do in my teens and twenties.
-
I feel good, I have zest, I sleep well and I wake up feeling refreshed and energized.
-
I do not take any medication. At my last checkup, I was given a clean bill of health. That means I can live life the way I want to. There is nothing holding me back.
-
I can walk my dog, chase my nieces and nephews and help my parents out with things around the farm.
-
Traveling is easy — and more fun…Once I have arrived at my destination, I can go on adventures, like hike up a mountain.
-
I look good naked. At least that is what my husband tells me.
-
I can wear booty shorts for every occasion. Just kidding, but I have never shied away from a comfortable pair of spandex.

“Scaling CrossFit For Cancer” by Andréa Maria Cecil, CrossFit Journal
Their stories will sound familiar. They were intimidated at first, but they stuck with it. They kept coming back despite the fear, the foreign movements, the initial soreness and the unfamiliar faces.
Over time, their anxiety diminished, their motor patterns improved, the physical discomfort waned, and strangers became friends. But, more than anything, it was a place where they found others who understood their plight.
“Just having somewhere where we could feel comfortable” was tremendous, said 35-year-old Monika Souto. “Some of us didn’t have a lot of hair when we started.”
Souto is one of the five people who participated in the first session of CrossFit Rebuild’s cancer-rehabilitation program, which launched in April.

CHALK UP TIPS

“No Pain, No Gain: Injury v.s. Gains” by Josh Littauer, CrossFit Invictus
If you have been in CrossFit for any length of time you have probably finished a workout, looked at the person lying on the floor next to you, and said “man that really hurt!” It is not uncommon to look across the gym at the conclusion of a tough workout see the carnage of bodies lying all over the floor writhing in pain and agony. To an outsider, this would appear to be a real issue and possibly cause for calling 911 as there are now a handful of injured athletes rolling around like they’ve been shot. However, it seems fairly commonplace in a CrossFit gym. It is also commonplace that there is little differentiation between beneficial pain and the onset of an injury.
