Good Sunday morning. It’s Sunday, May 29, and this is your Morning Chalk Up. Today is the final day of the 2016 CrossFit Regionals, so let’s make this quick and get back to the action. We’ll send out an alert when the East and Central Regionals wrap up later today, but we’re taking the tomorrow off.
Event 3 – Kevin Scholtz – 3:52
Event 4 – Paul Castillo – 13:13
Event 5 – Patrick Vellner – 11:52
Event 6 – Kristin Holte – 10:06
Event 7 – Adrian Mundwiler – 9:56
*The Meridian, East and Central Regionals have been smashing event records left and right. The only records left standing from previous weeks are Cody Anderson’s Event 2 record and Kara Webb’s Event 1 record.
Mathew Fraser became the first athlete to win the first 4 Regionals events. Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault is refusing to give Katrin Davidsdottir any room to breath. Katrin is only up by 2 points going into Day 3. We said yesterday, if there was one athlete to challenge Scott Panchik for the Central Regional title, it was Jacob Heppner and he’s going into Day 3 in first. Never count him out: Austin Malleolo started Saturday in 23rd and vaulted up to 9th. Who says you need two arms to compete at Regionals? Despite a torn bicep, Patrick Vellner, set a new Event 5 record and currently sits in 2nd place in the East. Sam Dancer (Central – 5) and Jennifer Nobis-Dancer (Central – 7) are fighting hard to follow Gary and Alea Helmick, the first married couple to qualify for the Games since 2012, and they’ve got a seriousy good shot. CLINCHED: Both Sara Sigmundsdottir and Annie Thorisdottir had clinched a spot to the CrossFit Games after Event 6.
