Sister, Sister!

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while sifting through applications for our research intern. If you wanna put your name in the ring for a spot in our Orange County office, just apply.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“You must complete the training.” — Yoda, Jedi Master.

SISTER, SISTER.

WHO?
No, not Tia and Tamera Mowry, the stars of the 90’s hit sitcom Sister, Sister.

We’re talking about Alexandra and Victoria Thornton, the high school junior and sixth grade national weightlifting champions.

CHAMPIONS YOU SAY?
We sure did. A few months ago, the two competed at the USA Weightlifting Youth National Championships. Victoria, the 6th grader snatched 79 pounds and clean and jerked 95 pounds to take Gold. Her older sister, high school junior Alexandra, took bronze with a 163 pound snatch and 194 pound clean and jerk.

But Alexandra has been competing for years now and recently her younger sister is following in her footsteps.

HOW’D THEY GET STARTED?
In one word: CrossFit.

In two words: Their father. His two passions in life: “his wife and six kids, and CrossFit.”

Fun fact, back in 2014, at 12-years-old Alexandra beat two-time Olympian Chad Vaughn to see who could hold the most national records.

Dang, sister. Strong women, may we know them, may we raise them.

IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK, PART 1

“It’s the first time (in 10 years), I feel comfortable in my body. Before that time I didn’t like to wear skinny jeans without feeling ‘fat.’ I didn’t think about wearing shorts for sports because I didn’t feel very comfortable. I ate a lot of healthy food, because I wanted to have something like a healthy lifestyle…I always wanted to look lean, but I was lying to myself. What I learned from the past months: it’s hard to stay consistent…Not feeling comfortable in my own skin was a big deal for me in the past years – now, not anymore. And I’m proud of myself and I will tell that to everyone who wants to know.” — Miriam Krug, Evolve Germany in Berlin

WHEN YOUR FRIEND ASKS IF YOU WANNA HIT THE GYM…

STORY SERIES: How has CrossFit helped you achieve a goal?

“To say that CrossFit strengthens me physically is something that is pretty obvious. But to say that it strengthens me more so on a mental level is something that surprised me. It has completely changed my life. I joined the gym my freshman year of college. My ambitions were small and my self confidence was minuscule. CrossFit instilled that confidence and drive within me and I am now on my way towards pharmacy school. I have CrossFit to thank for that. You are always stronger than you think.” — Kelsey Marie Meehl, The Box in Casa Grande, AZ
