Staying Active and Eating Clean on the Road

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while grabbing some BBQ down in Austin, Texas.

On Monday, we officially launched Morning Chalk Up Europe, a new publication focused specifically on following CrossFit in Europe. If you’re interested, you can signup or tell a friend across the pond.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“This pain you hold is yours, There is not a single quite like it. Nobody else on God’s green earth can feel this pain or have the indescribable feeling of PRIDE you will have when you overcome it. This pain is not your curse; This pain is your privilege.” — Arnold Schwarzenegger

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

The 17.1 submission deadline has been extended again to tonight at 5PM Pacific. Chandler Smith cut the tip of his ring finger off in a tank accident and looks to be out for the 2017 Games season. 18-year-old Joseph Pena squatted 1005 pounds. A firefighter gives Kara Webb mouth-to-mouth after 17.1 😉 The CrossFit HQ Media team just got a drone. When Mattie Rogers’ coach tells her to go till failure. The Internet’s favorite barnyard CrossFitter Barni Bojti has now done 17.1 four times. Post surgery, Lauren Fisher is getting back to lifting heavy again.

Moms are inventive. CrossFit moms are even more inventive. Especially when they need to do Assault bike intervals and rock the baby at the same time.

Founded by former Regional athlete Katie Danger, the name evolved from some of her favorite things in life: Hero, Heart, Health and Huskers (Go Nebraska y’all). “What truly makes Red H different is focusing on empowering athletes through recovery, rather than strictly performance based products. I believe that the majority of fitness gains and improvements happen OUTSIDE the gym. INSPIRING STORIES

Amy Nicole Pierce of CrossFit Lake Effect did 17.1 at 38 weeks pregnant then delivered a baby on Monday!

Joey Geib of CrossFit Q in Quakertown, PA is battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After 18 weeks of treatment, Joey had his last round of chemo last Thursday. On Sunday, he completed 17.1. “While cancer may have robbed me of some strength and work capacity, I’m #InTheOpen to prove that it hasn’t taken my will, my determination, and my mental toughness. I may have gotten only 111 reps, but each rep is a victory – a personal victory, and a victory to show others that life doesn’t have to stop when cancer comes knocking. I wouldn’t be in the Open without the help of my wife, friends, family, and box-mates at CrossFit Q.”

It takes a certain kind of crazy to torture yourself and endure an intense workout. For some reason, I felt like I wanted to take it to a new level. So, I signed up for the CrossFit Open.

What is the Open? It’s a five week, five workout competition held at CrossFit affiliates across the world. The top athletes compete for qualifying spots for the CrossFit Games — which is like the CrossFit Olympics.

I’m not anywhere close to getting in the Games. Signing up for the Open is more of a test to myself. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. That I could make it through the workouts and not die, even when I feel like I will.

“How to Stay Active and Eat Clean on the Road” by Gameplan A

Love it or hate it, you will be on the road at some point in your life–and your most well-established fitness habits will be put to the test. From passing time during an airport layover to wining and dining with clients, temptation is everywhere. But what the heck, why not have another dessert or drink. You’ll get back on track when you get home.

It’s true; a few days of indulgence won’t set you too far from your fitness goals, but too many treats can leave you feeling foggy, sluggish and wishing you had remembered to pack those healthy habits in your suitcase. Here are a few tricks that I use to navigate the temptations of travel.
