The CrossFit Games is some kind of special. It’s like going to Hogwarts and seeing spells cast for the first time, or being a kid again and meeting your favorite characters at Disney World. In no particular order:
1. Gui Malheiros walked into the Awards Ceremony with his girlfriend, and walked out with his fiancée. It’s unusual for an athlete to take the mic anytime, but especially during the CrossFit Games award ceremony. Before any of the awards begin, Gui and Luciana are called to the competition floor where he is given the microphone.
Malheiros begins by thanking the crowd for their support, then turns to his girlfriend— “I also want to thank the support of my girlfriend. She encouraged me, she did great, everything that I needed this weekend”. He drops to his knee and the crowd exudes a resounding “GUUUUIIIIII”— the response he has received from them all week.
In case you missed it: Lauren Kalil was at the CrossFit Games, and she crushed it along with co-host Preslie Hirsch and Dex Hopkins. If you want to relive some of the magic, check out their final day recap.

Up For An Ice Bath? The Benefits of Cold Immersion Therapy
In contrast to the piece we ran at the beginning of the summer around sauna usage, cold water immersion is another recovery protocol that continues to gain traction among athletes looking for an edge within the CrossFit community and beyond. With usage dating back to Ancient Greece, the practice is becoming more accessible and regularly utilized — but aside from making your teeth chatter, what exactly does it do for you?
“While cold immersion therapy has been used for centuries as a recovery tool, the science now shows it is really a performance enhancement tool with recovery being a secondary benefit,” said Evan DeMarco, the founder and CEO of Complete Human. “Activating mitochondrial rich brown fat through cold water immersion prior to a workout has been shown to increase free testosterone levels, improve strength gains, improve recovery times and improve muscle protein synthesis.”
The benefits: With a substantial amount of peer-reviewed research available, the upside of cooling down is well-documented and can include aiding:

Top Ten Athlete Payouts for the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games Season
In the second season of the new payout structure for the NOBULL CrossFit Games season, not much changed from the previous year as the top earners for both the men’s and women’s divisions, like past years, was the athlete who finished as the “Fittest”.
We have compiled, to the best of our knowledge, the 2022 season final payout list. This list factors in prize money awarded for the Games, the Open, Semifinals and event win bonuses from both the Games and the Open.
One big thing: This season the total individual athlete payout increased after consecutive seasons of decreased compensation. Last season, the total prize purse earned by individual athletes totalled $2,323,168 which was the first year of the new Games season format.
This year the total individual prize purse for the Games season was $2,518,132, an increase of 8.4% from the 2021 CrossFit season.
