CrossFit Announces Three More Drug Violations

Catch me up.

Last week,East Woodbridge was disqualified due to a failed drug test and now there are three more according to a statement released by CrossFit HQ.

Who are they?

Gena Malkovsky (Europe Individual), Megan Benzik (South Individual), and Carlos Castillo (Latin America Team) have all been listed as testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

Megan Benzik who tested positive for seven different drugs said: “Of all the metabolites found, I consciously made the decision to take 2 of them…vyvanse, which was prescribed to me by a doctor, and anavar, which was not prescribed…I take full responsibility for my decision to be on both of these drugs. Even though I was prescribed vyvanse, I knew it was not something I should have been taking while competing and I made the not so smart choice to do it anyways…Bottom line is that I knew I shouldn’t have been doing it and I chose to do it anyways. I fully accept any consequences that come my way.”

Now what?

All three athletes will receive a four year ban from CrossFit sponsored competitions, that’s everything from the Open to Liftoff and Team Series.

Anything else?

Unfortunately yes. There was one additional and very important line in CrossFit statement which says: “There are additional athletes who have been notified of a banned substance violation.”

That means there’s at least one more athlete who tested positive for a banned substance. And once the appeals process is concluded that information will be released.

Hello Fresh on Your Grocery Store Shelves.

The story.

Meal kits have become a norm in many homes and Hello Fresh is one of the top names in the biz. But what about for those people who just aren’t into subscription services?

Then this announcement is for you.

Some big news. Hello Fresh just announced that they’ll be offering their meal kits in grocery stores. They’ll start out by retailing them in 581 Giant Food and Stop & Shop stores, and they’ll be expanding to more throughout the year.

This shift is likely in response to Blue Apron offering their kits in Costco stores and Wal-Mart creating their own meal kits.

The deets please.

At between $15-$20 per kit, this is an easy and affordable alternative to getting dinner ready without the pressure of a continuous subscription showing up at your door — you know, because that kind of commitment is serious.

Coffee Break Conversation

What to tell the kid at your box who’s always piping in with things like “sleep when you’re dead” or “no rest for the weary” and generally making you feel bad for taking naps for time…

Turns out you’re wrong, bro. Sleep is even more important than we think, and there are actually lots of ways to do it wrong. Like snoring, or watching television in bed, or not resting when we’re bored. (Remember those naps for time?) Here are eight things you need to stop believing about sleep.

“NSCA Digs Ever-Deeper Grave,” CrossFit Journal

In May 2017, Judge Janis L. Sammartino issued a series of very serious sanctions against the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as part of CrossFit’s lawsuit against the organization.

In her ruling, Sammartino wrote, “There is plainly sufficient evidence to find willfulness, bad faith or fault on the part of the NSCA in withholding the recently discovered documents and in lying under oath in the federal proceedings.”

As part of the ruling, the NSCA was ordered to pay for a forensic analysis of its servers to determine the degree of misconduct and withholding. Such an analysis is neither cheap nor swift, and NSCA misconduct in a separate state case suggests the revelations will be damning.

In the state case, a discovery referee and trial judge recently ruled that the NSCA was guilty of additional misconduct: In total, the NSCA violated at least seven discovery orders and disregarded warnings about failing to honor its discovery obligations.
