Trendy Diets and Food Products are the New Norm
|
What now?
The Internet is a strange place. It connects us all and allows us to share all types of new ideas and concepts — but let’s be honest, maybe some of them should stay as just ideas. But whether it’s the newest IG food trend, diet, or some new, completely unbelievable product, we’re taking it all in and talking about it.
Like being a Pegan…Not to be confused with Pagan.
We’re talking about the Pegan diet — when paleo and vegan collide. As impossible as that sounds to achieve, the Pegan diet combines the principles from both diets under one umbrella. So many of those non-paleo veggie items like legumes and starches and more fruits are back on the menu, and all those animal byproducts we’re salivating over right now are also in play. But most gluten products and milk — definitely don’t ‘got milk’ — are personas non grata. And you should try really really hard to make it all organic.
The crazy food trends continue.
Take nut butters for instance (we know you love them). There’s the brands we know and love: RXBAR, Phat Fudge, and Justins. Now there are craft nut butters: nut butter made with craft beer. Why? Well, because they can.
It’s not all bad.
Thankfully, many of these crazy weird products stem from a place of improvement. We’ve ditched the sodas and now we have more sparkling water varieties than we’ll ever know what to do with. There’s The Date Lady giving us healthier ways of sweetening our treats (like with pure date syrup), and companies working to make healthier versions of our favorites, like paleo chocolate bars (we’re pretty sure you can’t hunt or gather those, but what do we know?).
But some of it’s bad.
Let’s take a minute to thank the internet world for opening up our eyes to all the things that could be— but tell them to take that cockroach milk back to wherever it came from, because NOPE.

What to tell your friend who’s kids are trying to stay up late cause it’s summer…
Put them to bed. After CrossFit Riviera was disqualified for violating Rule 1.18, Internet rumors began growing that CrossFit Invictus X was also in violation of the same rule because Jenn and Sam Dancer are the owners of QTown CrossFit but competed with CrossFit Invictus at
the West Regional. Yesterday, we confirmed that neither Jenn nor Sam Dancer are the Licensee of Record for QTown CrossFit. It is actually Andrew Baker and according to the Dancers the switch took place back in October 2017, long before the 2018 CrossFit Games season began.

THE CLEAN EATING MYTH — Athlete Daily wants to clear the air on a misconception about clean eating when it comes to performance nutrition. “If you’re an athlete who’s goal is to fuel their performance, “eating clean” is not, and should not be, your number one priority. If you are an athlete focused on achieving a certain body composition goal (fat loss, build muscle), “eating clean” is not, and shouldn’t be, priority number one.”

“The Power of the Mind” by Nichole Kribs, Invictus Fitness
How do you become one of the best, then beat the best at their own game?
One of the biggest things that can have the greatest impact is the mindset of an athlete. A mindset that expects you to play your game consistently will always be the one that prevails.
The best athletes head into competition without the assumed expectation that they will be on the podium at the end of the weekend. Even if they’ve been there before. Even if they’ve outperformed their competition in the past. They know they have to perform and do so consistently throughout the weekend to have a shot.
Here is where consistency with the mind is crucial.
This doesn’t mean that if you just think about being at Games then you will be there. These athletes live their truth. They eat, breathe and live training for Games and they pass check marks along the way. They come in top three at local competitions, come in top five at big competitions, consistently stay on top during the Open and compete with consistency at Regionals. But that finesse of elevating oneself to beat the best in the sport is a craft that takes time and practice to master.
Whatever that ultimate test looks like for you, know that once you’ve committed to testing your limits then consistency with your mindset will help you be your best amidst the best.
