WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

Trevor Bachmeyer Apologizes for Cheating — In a video posted to Instagram, Trevor Bachmeyer apologizes, saying: “Somewhere along the way, the ecstasy of winning shifted my attention and clouded my priorities and principles…I stand before you embarrassed and ashamed of what has transpired in the last few weeks…I have embarrassed myself, my family, my friends and I know only time can correct the wrong that I have done. The four year ban from CrossFit HQ was a fair and justified punishment and I hope it prevents anyone else who falls to the mercy of their ego from doing what I did.”

Sam Briggs unofficially broke the 5K Concept2 rowing World Record in the 30-39 year-old division. CrossFit HQ released a new HERO WOD last week and Dave Castro will give away an Assault Fitness Runner to whomever posts the fastest time. An 18-year-old snatches 287 pounds at the 2017 Junior Nationals. Here’s 73-year-old Rosemary Mattosian doing weighted pistols. Sarah Loogman hits a 200 pound hang clean and push perk PR.

Regionals Update Christy Adkins decides to go team this year with CrossFit Balance Thomas Circle. Both Alea and Gary Helmick will be competing on teams with CrossFit ReVamped. Sam Briggs will be returning to the Meridian Regional as an individual competitor. Sarah Hopping Estrella is on the fence, waiting for an invitation. Julie Foucher prepping for the worm at Regionals with CTown CrossFit.

“Why CrossFit Supports Soda Warning Labels” by The Russells

If you follow CrossFit on social media, you know we support SB 300, California’s Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Safety Warning Act. And you also know that not everyone agrees with this position. Debate over the warning label tends to focus on whether sugar is toxic. The libertarian-minded also tend to wonder whether the state of California has the right to mandate a warning label on soda.

Yet few have discussed CrossFit’s strategy behind supporting the warning label: so that health organizations like the American College of Sports Medicine and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have to stop taking soda money.

The immediate impact of SB 300 is obvious. It would require every sugar-sweetened beverage can, bottle, and vending machine to carry the following warning label: STATE OF CALIFORNIA SAFETY WARNING: Drinking beverages with added sugar(s) contributes to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and tooth decay.
