Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while launching the new MorningChalkUp.com. Check it out and let us know what you think.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss — good, not evil. Success, not failure in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it.” — Unknown

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

What we’re forwarding to friends: CrossFit explained for beginners. Coming to Netflix, “Ultimate Beastmaster” pits 18 competitors against one another to complete an obstacle course and according to the New York Times, a few of them are “CrossFit enthusiasts.” Anna Tunnicliffe withdraws from the sailing world cup because the World Anti Doping Agency said it hadn’t been long enough since returning from retirement. Nike re-releases their “banned” all black Metcon. Rob Forte took a 20 minute ride in a fighter jet. The No Bull lifters look so darn amazing.

For all you petites out there, remember size matters not. Kerri Keegan is 4′ 11″, can clean and jerk 210 pounds and started CrossFit four years ago. Trust the process.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

Rory McKernan explain everything that you need to know about competing in the 2017 CrossFit Open.

ON THE RADIO

What does being a great competitor have in common with being a great coach? That’s a great question, and Brute Strength sits down with Chris Spealler in this episode to discuss.

CHALK UP READS

CrossFit will kill you! Carbs are evil! Women don’t need to be strong!

There’s a lot of nonsense in the fitness industry. (What exactly is toning, anyhow?) Even if you’re not new to the gym, it’s easy to get caught up in old myths or things you hear from people the second you pick up a barbell or decide you’re going to take up CrossFit or weightlifting.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of myths that should be debunked. (Do we really need to explain why dieting based off of your personality type is silly?) But, for now, it would make us happy if just these four went away.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Tiger’s Den CrossFit in Dallas, TX hosted an all-day team competition last weekend called “Gains and Giving,” in order to raise money for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The box plans to host the same event each year and pick a different charity to support.
The Pike County CrossFit community in Georgia is rallying behind two of their members who’ve been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Brandon is a PE teacher and Ryan is a chiropractor; both are active at their CrossFit boxes.

Shoreline CrossFit has created their own soccer-centric programming for athletes that want to cater their CrossFit towards their soccer goals.

Introducing Wreck Bags. They don’t have sand, which means the weight stays evenly distributed. Box Pro wrote a review about the “Best New Product in 2014” and they’re offering a 15% discount with code “CHALKUP.”
