QUOTE OF THE DAY |
“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” — Unknown
|
QUICK BRIEF.
5 Things you need to know.
|
-
Got handstand walks? A total of 77 teams were unable to complete Event 1. Only 13 teams, or 14% of the field fiished under the time cap. At least one athlete was stuck struggling through the handstand obstacle course.

-
Unbroken…That’s what Sara Signmundsdottir did through Linda, including the squat cleans. Her time of 13:03 is 1:44 seconds faster than Laura Horvath’s second place performance. BUT GET THIS: Katrin Davidsdottir finished in 12:50. Guess someone went faster.
-
Roman Khrennikov is your curreny leader overall in Europe. He’s only been doing CrossFit for two years.
-
Reduce that time cap. Here are the average finishes for male and female athletes across all three Regionals on Event 1. The average male finished between six and nine minutes under the time cap (only one male didn’t finish). The time cap seemed a little more in line for female athletes with roughly 20% not finishing.

-
Five — That’s the number of athletes who’ve withdrawn so far from Regionals (four males, one female). That’s far fewer than last year.

SURPRISE. SURPRISE.
Who’s up, who’s down.
|
Who’s up.
Laura Horvath, 1st overall, Europe: A three-time Regionals athlete who placed 11th last year, is leading among a cadre of elite athletes after day 1.
Jared Enderton, 5th overall, South: Known for his ability to move a heavy barbell, the three-time Regionals athlete has spent some serious time increasing his aerobic capacity enough to take 11th in Triple 3.
Margaux Alvarez, 1st overall, South Regional: Margaux came out and made a statement in day one, racking up two second place finishes. She sits 62 points ahead of Tennil Beuerlein, who won theSouth Regional last year.
Who’s down.
BK Gudmundsson, 18th overall, Europe: A four-time CrossFit Games athlete and two-time winner of the Meridian Regional didn’t even finish Linda (Event 2). Coupled with a 13th place finish on Event 1, that puts him in a really challenging climb back to qualification.
Thuri Helgadottir, 19th overall, Europe: The five-time Games athlete (four as an individual and once on a team) suffered two poor back-to-back performances, placing 16th and 24th in Events 1 and 2.
Chelsey Hughes, 31st, East: She qualified last year but withdrew after an injury during the cyclocross event, Chelsey sits in 31st with only 71 points. If she won all remaining events she’d end with 471 points, which would likely secure her a spot back.
