We’ll See You in Madison

Good morning and welcome to the weekend edition of the Morning Chalk Up. This is Jessica Danger, your Managing Editor, filling in for Justin LoFranco who is on his way to Madison, to bring you a quick wrap-up of the major news items throughout the week.

For the last few weeks we’ve been busy preparing for our 2019 CrossFit Games coverage in Madison. We’re coming to you live from the FITAID Beer Garden with a three-times daily live show hosted by Tommy Marquez, live color commentary and play-by-play hosted by Rob Orlando and Jeff Brightwell.

But the 2019 CrossFit Games will also be covered by Rogue, the Australian CrossFit Championship, CrossFit French Throwdown and many others. (You can get all the live coverage from Morning Chalk Up by subscribing to our YouTube channel.)

This means that in addition to English, the 2019 CrossFit Games will be available in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Hebrew, English, Danish, Spanish, and Icelandic.

And if you’re on the ground in Madison for the Games, you’ll see three hundred thirty eight CrossFitters from across the world take the floor for the chance to represent their country in front of their friends, family and fans. Restaurants and bars across the city are developing menus and drinks to embrace the nations now being represented at the Alliant Energy Center.

This time last year, no one even saw this coming. But here we are: The road has been bumpy along the way but we’re here now and we’ve got a lot more people with us to showcase the efficacy of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.

But what we’re also showcasing here is community and dedication to the like-minded cause of health and fitness.

In years past, CrossFit Games athletes have been showered with swag bags full of thousands of dollars worth of products, especially from Reebok. This year, with CrossFit removing the footwear restrictions, even more brands are shelling out to get their products into the hands of the fittest athletes on earth.

Every summer, CrossFit affiliates across the country host programs to teach kids healthy nutrition habits to fight against the growing childhood obesity in America. Here are some of the programs out there working as lifeboats in their community.

The Morning Chalk Up Show is coming to the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games live from inside the FITAID Beer Garden. Hosted by Tommy Marquez, the three-times daily show kicks off Wednesday morning, bringing you behind the scenes in Madison, WI with athlete interviews, expert analysts, inside story coverage, stats and analysis from the best in the business.

During a Street Use Staff Commission meeting on Wednesday, a street use application, filed by CrossFit, requesting street closures for an event scheduled on Sunday, August 4 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM was approved. CrossFit submitted a map which shows the road closure and outlines an event area that borders Lake Monona.

Earlier this week, Ben Smith posted video of himself cleaning 330 pounds with a comment that he’d take a wildcard if it was offered to him, it sparked an Internet conversation/informal petition to get Smith a wildcard invite to the CrossFit Games.
