Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. We wrapped up the eighth and final Team Series WOD yesterday at Left Coast CrossFit, but because we were too busy writing today’s edition (you’re welcome BTW) we forgot to log our scores. Oh well, we did it for the fitness.
Today’s edition is powered by FlapJacked, a high-protein, natural food company. Tired of protein bars and shakes? Check out FlapJacked’srevolutionary high-protein, gluten-free Mighty Muffins. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX
ROUNDUP — Think your Nano collection is bad? Jared Enderton’s Olympic Weightlifting shoe addiction is much worse. Marcus Filly hits a 365 pound clean plus two front squats PR. Tia-Clair Toomey got married! Camille Leblanc-Bazinet joins Dave Castro’s Ragnar Relay team. Ben Alderman drinks a bottle of Margaux Alvarez’s wine and gave it an A+. Cody Anderson hits a 435 pound back squat PR. CrossFit now has an official leather duffel bag. This is what it looks like to train with Aleksey Torokhity for a day.
We’re keeping score…Emily Bridgers – 0 — The Blob – 1.
REWATCH — The Caffeine & Kilos 2017 Invitational which featured a number of notable elite Olympic Weightlifters hitting unofficial American Record lifts went down last weekend. Through the three hour long meet, Ian Wilson and Wes Kitts both snatched 375 pounds, a 16-year-old girl snatched 198 pounds, another 16-year-old girl snatched 220 pounds and a 17-year-old boy clean and jerked 390 pounds.
DRIVING THROUGH LAS VEGAS — Sunday night, Margaux Alvarez and Alex Cardenas were driving up the I-15 coming back from California. “We drove by last night on our way home bummed we were missing the concert. The Trailer is too hard to maneuver down the Strip so we listened to the concert on Sirius as we drove north to The Vine Yard. I’m sad and angry about this disgusting act, and am hoping all of our friends in the area are safe!”
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN…You get your first bar muscle-up during class? You decide to do the bar muscle-up WOD in the CrossFit Games Team Series Rx instead of scaled even if you’re not going to finish under the time cap.
WHAT TO TELL YOUR FRIEND WHO’S NERVOUS ABOUT JUMPING IN THE WATER…
Just get in already. Apparently surfing is kinda still a man’s sport. It’s not that women don’t do it competitively, but less casually. Instead of opting to hang out on the sand while the dudes go 10 rounds with Poseidon. That’s kinda how Hilary Achauer — who writes often for CrossFit Journal — put it. An avid surfer, she compares the sport to CrossFit and how from day one Glassman put women on equal footing with men all the way from pay to punishment (in a getting your butt kicked kinda sense), which is one of our favorite things about CrossFit.
THINGS TO…
WATCH: The Wrong Prescription
For years, Laurie Roth was using insulin to combat her Type 1 diabetes, which was resulting in heavier and heavier weights. Fed up, she walked into CrossFit Round Rocks and has never looked back.

HEAR: Developing a Culture of Service
This week on the Nasty Girls Podcast, Amy and Olivia share their perspective on acts of service — what you do (or don’t do) for others and others do for you. The CrossFit community is one of the most generous and giving communities we know, so how can you get your box more involved?
SHARING IS CARING.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES
AFFILIATE REVIEW — Daphne from CrossFit Abroad drops into her second home of Bodrum, Turkey to visit her family and finds out that the popular tourist town finally has their own CrossFit Affiliate, the 24th official affiliate in Turkey. So naturally, she has to drop in and leave a review.
CrossFit Scunthorpe in the U.K. held a 12-hour WOD on Saturday and raised more than $1000 for victims of the Mexico City earthquake that has claimed the lives of more than 350 people. The wife of the owner is from Mexico City.
DO MORE CHARITY — Denver’s annual charity competition went down this weekend at Front Range CrossFit. The fifth place team from Loveland, CO was able to raise $28,000 for KidsPak, which will pay for 8,250 bags of food for the program this year. Six locals banded together and were able to provide more than 8,000 bags of food for kids struggling to get food. Damn, that’s cool.
