Fittest in Cape Town, West Coast Qualifiers Announced
The 2019-2020 CrossFit Games season has unofficially kicked off with the release of the International Online Qualifier event 1 on Monday evening. If you haven’t been paying attention, the International Online Qualifier (IOQ) is a single online qualifier for four Sanctionals: Filthy150, Wodapalooza, Atlas Games and SouthFit CrossFit Challenge.
Fittest in Cape Town changes:
There will be 30 male, 30 female and 30 elite teams.
They are also adding a single-day community team event, and two-day competition categories for 15-17-year-old teens and a 40+ masters division.
FiCT continues the trend of Sanctionals not using wildcard invites.
How to qualify:
Champions of FiCT 2019 will receive direct invites to compete in 2020.
Top 10 male and female athletes and top 5 teams from the 2019 CrossFit Games will receive automatic invites. There will be no backfilling.
The top 10 male and female athletes from the 2019-2020 Open will receive automatic qualification. There will be no backfilling.
Athletes must register before the start of FiCT’s online qualifier otherwise their spot is forfeited.
All remaining spots (teams and individuals) will be filled from their online qualifier from November 22 – December 2, 2019.
Another important update: According to an Instagram post, West Coast Classic is going to be using the Open as their qualifier, joining six other Sanctionals. Exactly 1/4th of all Sanctionals will use the Open in the 2019-2020 season.

How KT Trombetta Found CrossFit and Made it to the Games — KT Trombetta shared with the Telegraph how she found CrossFit and how she went from not being able to do a pull-up to competing in Madison.
— “Trombetta’s CrossFit ascension came from the most humble of beginnings. ‘She wasn’t any good at it,’ her coach Willie Moore said, ‘but she loved it.’
— “Trombetta confirms that initial assessment. ‘When I came into this gym,’ she said, ‘just to start taking classes, I couldn’t do a pull-up. I couldn’t do a handstand. I couldn’t hold my chin above the pull-up bar.'”
After the 2018 CrossFit Games, both Tia-Clair Toomey and Mathew Fraser moved to Cookeville, Tennessee to train together at CrossFit Mayhem alongside Rich Froning, the Mayhem Freedom Team, and all of the other top CrossFitters that pass through the Mayhem doors during the season.
On an unstoppable train: The two bellwethers are setting records left and right. Their training partnership and competitive rivalry are paying dividends for both in 2019.
Competing head-to-head in Miami for the Open 19.5 announcement, Fraser beats Toomey and sets the world record for 19.5, only the second time that has been done during an Open announcement (Samantha Briggs set the world record in the Open 14.5 announcement).
They both won the Rogue Invitational. And in their informal competition, Fraser beat Toomey with 712 points to her 696 points. But Toomey had four event wins to Fraser’s three. At the 2019 CrossFit Games, both won the championship with Toomey earning 1071 points to Fraser’s 984 points. But Fraser this time had more events wins with six to Toomey’s five. Nearly identical careers: In their CrossFit Games careers, Toomey is just one year behind with Fraser’s first Games in 2014 to Toomey’s first in 2015. Ironically career stat-wise, Toomey right now is practically in the same position that Fraser was in at the end of the 2018 Games.
