After years of hearing my brother and I geek out on it, and let’s be honest wearing her down, my sister-in-law tried CrossFit for the first time three weeks ago. While my brother, who CrossFits regularly, was away for military training she walked into Petroglyph CrossFit in Albuquerque, NM and said she’d like to try CrossFit please.
She loves it.
She’s gone almost every day of the week since then, even braving Sunday open gym with my nieces. Every day she’s been texting me updates on how awesome each workout has been, how sore she is, and asking me questions about CrossFit terms, points of performance and, the ever famous “will it get easier?”
She sends me text messages about her lifts and upping her weight, and compliments on her form from her coach. And you guys. She is so dang strong.
It’s been so long since I started CrossFit that I’ve forgotten how exciting it was to start CrossFit! Literally every single day is a new baseline. And every lift, movement, and time after that is a PR.
Her birthday is the third, and I’m in the air as I write this, on my way to spend it with her and my nieces. In my bag, I have a gift for her. And it’s a CrossFit accessory.
But the biggest gift is the gift she gave herself, the gift of fitness.
To remembering what it was like to start,
