“Yes, I’m Training For a Marathon with CrossFit”

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while watching Chris Spealler’s daughter interrupt him during a WOD to give him a big hug.

15 days, 11 hours until the first CrossFit Open announcement.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself…If you are careless and lazy now and keep putting things off and always deferring the day after which you will attend to yourself, you will not notice that you are making no progress, but you will live and die as someone quite ordinary.” — Epictetus

There, I said it. I’m going to prepare for 26.2 miles by doing a lot of not running.

I’ll admit, the idea of training through another winter for another marathon was not appealing. I’ve done the Big Sur International Marathon for the last three years, and while I love it, my ability to train adequately for it has declined. Last year was the first time I ever cheated on my training plan—skipping five or six of my longest runs and logging only a single 20-miler. Work had just gotten so insane that by the weekend, I had zero energy to cart myself around for hours and hours.

Doing other things is actually really good for the runner’s body. And mind.
