CrossFit LLC, Community Gyms Coalition Fight for Local Gyms
Over the past week, the states of Washington, Oregon, California, New York, and Michigan have all taken actions that will have a negative financial impact on the fitness industry. The Community Gyms Coalition (CGC), a group that represents more than 15,000 community gyms in the United States is calling on Congress to pass legislation to provide direct support for the fitness industry.
One big thing: As COVID-19 infection rates have spiked around the country, and state governments institute new restrictions that limit or close community gyms, the Community Gyms Coalition, yesterday released a statement calling on Congress to provide financial relief similar to that provided for the restaurant industry.
The details: The Community Gyms Coalition was created by CrossFit, Mindbody, Orangetheory Fitness, Planet Fitness, Self Esteem Brands, Xponential Fitness and Zumba Fitness.
- According to data released by Yelp, the nation’s gyms and fitness facilities currently face higher closure rates than nearly any other industry, including restaurants and bars. As of August 31, Yelp data showed 6,024 closed fitness facilities, including 57 percent temporary closures and 43 percent permanent closures.
