Born Primitive Take Things Outside the Box with New Outdoor Collection
CrossFitters have a lot of things in common: rough hands, sore muscles, lingo that’s foreign to other sports, and an odd appreciation for pain, just to name a few. Another commonality amongst this community?
A love for living an overarching healthy, active lifestyle — often accompanied by mother nature herself.
Born Primitive, a veteran owned apparel company out of Virginia Beach, has been outfitting functional fitness go-getters since 2014. For the last two years or so, they’ve been working specifically on expanding their offerings to be more all-encompassing for our active population of athletes — wherever their adventures may take them.

That is how Born Primitive Outdoor was born”
In bringing this concept to life, the team created a system that’s got you covered – literally – for your next outdoor adventure. From the next-to-skin base layer to the outermost layer, different materials are incorporated that give the pieces a fitted, athletic feel, without being either too tight or too baggy. Additionally, the fabrics utilized will manage moisture and retain heat; critical considerations when you find yourself in the fresh air for extended periods of time.
The collection includes:
- Ridgeline Base Layer Top and Bottom
- Merino wool fabric blend in two different thicknesses, depending on desired warmth
- Quiver Half-Zip Grid Fleece
- Sentry Full-Zip Fleece Jacket
- Frontier Pant (available in lightweight and heavyweight)
- Tundra Puff Jacket (available in lightweight and heavyweight)
Each item has been put to the test in the elements to ensure it will perform when it really matters. Whether you are going on a leisurely hike or spending three days in the field, their layering system has you covered.
“I think the most important thing to know is that every product in this collection was designed and tested by people who are the most respected in the industry,” Handlon said.
“We teamed up with Aron Snyder, who is one of the most proficient outdoorsmen on the planet, to help us design the technical components of this apparel. He spends more than 150 days of the year in the field, so this allowed us to field test it extensively and hone in on every little detail. If you were to find yourself in adverse conditions, those details really matter.”
Today marks the beginning of a significant new chapter for Born Primitive, and Handlon teased you might see some additional expansions in the future. “I can’t quite let the secret out just yet, but all I’ll say is that you can expect to see another major expansion from us next summer,” he stated before finishing. “We think it’s going to make some waves in the CrossFit space!”
