Quarterfinals Preview: Oceania and Asia
Today we preview the Oceania and Asia Quarterfinals as individual athletes from those two continents will jockey for the coveted in-person Semifinal competition invitation, moving one step closer to qualifying for the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games.
Oceania: According to the Open leaderboard, the Oceania region will have 997 men and 898 women each competing for 30 spots each at the Torian Pro Oceania Semifinal held in Brisbane, Australia on May 28-30 with a majority of those athletes representing either the CrossFit-rich countries of Australia and New Zealand. With just 3% of the men and 3.3% of the women’s field moving onto the next stage of the Games after the online Quarterfinals we will take a look into the highly competitive Oceania field and break down who we think will be competing for one of the 30 spots.
Women’s Division:
The Fittest: The field is headlined by the four-time reigning and defending “Fittest Woman on Earth” Tia-Clair Toomey who at the time of publication has just won her first career worldwide Open title in dominating fashion.
Save Time and Don't Reinvent the Wheel When Building a Nutrition Program
Nutrition is the foundation of the fitness pyramid, yet most people skip right over it and focus purely on exercise.
But gym owners know that for their clients to see outstanding results need to be talking about nutrition.
Every week on the Grow Your Nutrition Business podcast, Nicole Aucoin shares simple and actionable tips to help gym owners and coaches build a successful nutrition program.
Quarterfinals Update: The Quarterfinals stage will consist of five total workouts. Yesterday, CrossFit released floor plans and a revised equipment list for all five. Here are the briefing videos for the set-up of each test:
Notable: The revised equipment does not include gymnastics rings, a pull-up bar, or 30′ of flat space suitable for covering distance, all of which appeared on the initial list released by the CrossFit Games.

Fifth Fittest in 2020 to 2021 Open Winner, Jeffrey Adler, Recaps His "Best Open Yet"
The CrossFit Open came to an end on March 29 with the score submission cutoff. Once the leaderboard was finalized, a new name sat in first place — Jeffrey Adler. The French-Canadian and Fifth Fittest Man on Earth in 2020 started the 2021 season off with a win in the Open.
Remind me: Adler has competed in the Open since 2016 and has steadily risen up the leaderboard. He started 2,709th in 2016 and improved each year before finishing first in 2021. During this time, Adler also competed at the CrossFit Games twice. He finished 33rd in 2019 and then took fifth in the unique 2020 season.
“All Adversity is Equal,” Says Open Seated Without Hip Second-Place Finisher Jedidiah Snelson
Jedidiah Snelson insists the challenges and adversity he faced after becoming a complete paraplegic in 2014 is no different than what able bodied people experience in regular life.
“All adversity is equal. People look at me and visually they assume what I face is greater than what they face, and it’s not true. I was 34 when I was paralyzed, and the adversity I have faced since isn’t any different than things I experienced before,” said the 41-year-old, who was second in the men’s seated without hip division of the Open.
Snelson’s message: Adaptive athletes aren’t as different as the world often perceives them to be.
“My biggest challenge is just awareness and education. There’s this misnomer that what we do is just some scaled version and that it’s easy,” said Snelson, an Idaho resident. “I have been lucky enough to engage with some elite athletes and have them try the adaptive version of a workout and they recognize that it can be as challenging as their version of the workout, sometimes even more challenging because it (might be more) upper body focused.”

A 500m row challenge might sound like a dream for many CrossFitters, but what if you’re a nearly 300-pound professional strongman competitor? Rob Kearney received a challenge from his friend Mat Fraser to see how fast he could complete the task.
