Seven Interesting Movements to be Tested at the 2023 Rogue Invitational
Every year the Rogue Invitational introduces some new implements and movements that are not only new to the athletes competing, but also to the entire CrossFit world as a whole, and this year is no different.
By taking a quick look at this year’s recently published test schedule we can already see a few interesting things that are about to take place.
Here’s what stood out to us:
Killer Cage. We don’t yet know exactly what this is, but if it’s the “Killer Kage” from the 2011 CrossFit Games, it’s a monkey bar traverse, down and back. It’s worth noting that Josh Bridges, one of the programmers for the Rogue Invitational won his heat in the Killer Kage event that year, beating Rich Froning, Jason Khalipa, Matt Chan, and others.
Log Muscle Up. The log muscle up made its debut at Rogue last year and it looks like it is here to stay. For the athletes at this level high rep muscle ups are not a challenge at all, but doing them on a log, while your grip is also blowing up is a completely different story.
Single Arm Strongman DB Shoulder to Overhead. Rogue is known for their love of all things Strongman and this is yet another test that shows it. Since the Strongman dumbbell is a lot larger than a typical Rogue rubber dumbbell, with a thicker grip, the width can definitely throw off the rhythm of the athletes.
Double Fatbell Ground-to-Overhead. If you have no idea what a Fatbell is, we highly suggest looking it up. Thanks to the hole in the base of the kettlebell, athletes will potentially be able to go from ground to overhead much easier, faster, and with less strain on their wrists.
Hill Sled Push. Pushing a sled is grueling already and pushing it up a hill has got to be at least a hundred times worse. We don’t know the weight the athletes will be pushing, but it does not sound fun for them. It will however be awesome for us to watch.
Hill Run. This hill run is likely going to include a weight vest of some sort and coming down off the hill the athletes have to go immediately into box jumps once their legs are blown up. Amazing programming, but gnarly quad pumps.
1RM Deadlift. Will we see Patrick Vellner pull another 600lb / 272kg deadlift?
We are still waiting for some tests and details to be announced, but from what we can see already, there’s a lot to look forward to.

23 Questions with Olivia Kerstetter, 2023 CrossFit Games Rookie of the Year
As we head into the end of 2023, it’s a good time to reflect on the season behind us as well as look to what’s coming ahead. But amidst the heavy pondering that comes with the close of the year, it’s also time to approach some more light hearted subjects.
In 2022, Kerstetter took home first in the 16-17 age division. In 2023, Kerstetter would continue to make moves in the teen division, taking first in the Age Group Online Quarterfinals for her division. But Kerstetter also finished 7th at the North America West Semifinals, earning herself a spot at the 2023 CrossFit Games as an individual woman. In her rookie year as an individual, Kerstetter took 16th overall. This week, we sat down with Kerstetter to learn more about a day in the life of a 17-year old CrossFit superstar.
