WHAT’S UP: EAST, SOUTH REGIONALS

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Five East Athletes InjuredAlex Vigneault officially withdrew from competition after the partial pectoral tear rendered him unable to complete a push-up. During Event 2, Christian Harris, Chase Smith, Kyle Cant and Corey Lunney appeared to hurt their pecs during the ring dips. Chase can be seen rolling on the floor in pain. Chase and Corey Lunney have withdrawn from competition. These four were the only athletes who did not finish Event 2.

Dave Castro walks through his thought processes on programming Event 1 and Event 2 and his thoughts on having no barbell at Regionals.

Fun Fact: There have never been air squats at Regionals.

SURPRISES: WHO’S UP, WHO’S DOWN.

WHO’S UP?

Tim Paulson, 3rd Overall: After five straight Regionals appearances, Tim snagged his first ever Regionals event win beating Mat Fraser by 3 seconds.
Nick Paladino, 9th Overall: This is the former teenage champion’s first year competing with the big boys. He placed fourth in Event 1 and finished the day in 9th overall.

Chelsey Hughes, 5th Overall: This is her fifth trip to Regionals; twice on teams and three times as an individual. She currently sits in 5th place.

Kelsey Kiel, 11th Overall: She went to the Games with CrossFit Parallax last year, but this is her rookie debut as an individual. She currently sits 11th after an impressive 7th place finish in Event 2.

WHO’S DOWN?

All three of these guys are Games athletes who’ve done Murph before. Only Paul Tremblay finished Event 1 in the top 20. Larouche is a 4x Games athlete and Parker is a 5x Games athlete.

Paul Tremblay: 15th Place.
Albert-Dominic Larouche: 23rd Place.
Lucas Parker: 34th Place.

Sean Sweeney, 19th Overall: After a 44th place finish and struggling to close out Event 2 under the time cap, Sean finds himself down to 19th overall.

Brenda Castro, 16th Overall: Latin America’s best hope for sending their first athlete to the CrossFit Games barely finished Event 2 under the time cap and sits in 16th place overall.
