During the women’s Criterium event, Michele Fumagalli fell and rolled off her bike rounding the last turn of her final lap. The chain of her bike popped off, forcing her to pick up her bike and run across the finish line for a 26th place finish.

Unfortunately for Fumagalli and her fans, her rookie appearance at the CrossFit Games is cut short.

“It’s okay. I’m here with my family, and I know how hard I worked to get here. I’m okay,” Fumagelli said, who qualified for her first CrossFit Games after placing fourth in the Central Regional.

Onsite medical staff said she likely broke her wrist and according to CrossFit’s injury policy, athletes must receive clearance from the medical staff and head judge or on-site director before returning to competition.” Fumagalli wasn’t cleared. She heads home to her doctor on Friday for surgery.

During the 2017 CrossFit Games Event “Cyclocross”, Camille Leblanc-Bazinet and Chelsey Hughes also suffered competition ending injuries.
