With Four Days Left, Open Registration Numbers Down 44%

The preliminary Open registration numbers are in and registration is currently down 44%.
As of the first announced workout — 5:00 PM PT on Thursday — a little more than 280,000 total athletes had registered for the 2019 CrossFit Open across all divisions.
The paltry registration numbers so far raise red flags for a community which has undergone massive changes in the past seven months, affecting enthusiasm for the largest community event of the year. It also represents, currently, $4.4 million in revenue left on the table.
With just under four days left for athletes to register — the deadline is Monday, Feb 25 @ 5:00 PM — current registration numbers are still around 220,000 away from nearly half a million registered in 2018. However, there has been a noticeable uptick in recent days, as 32,000 were added today alone coupled with another 23,000 yesterday. CrossFit would have to average 55,000 registrations per day to make up the difference.
Since the Open first started in 2011, registration has increased every year, jumping more than 30% from 2017 to 2018.
