In celebration of National Coming Out Day on October 11, OUTAthletics is hosting a Burpee-A-Thon to raise funds for the OUT Foundation and their programs supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

One big thing: OUTAthletics in-person events are a major fundraising piece of the OUT Foundation. With COVID restrictions canceling many of their fundraising WODs, they have been struggling to fund their programs, according to Eddie Plata, Executive Director of the foundation.

The details: Register for the event and on October 11, complete as many burpees as you can in 10 minutes. OUTAthletics will live-stream the event via Zoom.

  • “National Coming OUT Day is not about forcing anyone to come out, it’s about supporting the LGBTQ+ community both publicly and privately in any way you can by letting them know that you’re an ally, a friend, a confidant, and you’re here for them… and we think this event will be a fun way to support each other and our community through some safe, sweaty fun!” said Will Lanier, Chief Mission Officer for the organization on the event registration page.
  • Registration is available for individuals and teams.
  • Athletes are asked to register online and set up a campaign page. Friends, family, and more can then pledge a monetary amount for each burpee completed.

Why it matters: Through the OUTAthlete program, the OUT Foundation provides year-long gym memberships, nutrition coaching, and more to LGBTQ+ individuals. Plus:

  • The OUTHealth initiative supports transgender and gender diverse individuals with workshops and education.

This is the second Burpee-A-Thon OUTAthletics has held this year, their first event raising $10,000. They’re aiming to hit that number for a second time.
