Apples and oranges: That’s the reality of comparing rent between a gym in Chicago, IL with a gym in Cumming, GA.

We talked to 75 affiliate owners and found monthly rents ranged from as little as 21 cents per square foot—in Anaconda, MT—to as much as $3 per square foot—in the San Diego, CA area.

  • One gym owner in Rapid City, SD, for example, pays $3,600 a month for a 4,000 square foot facility, while another in Wilmette, IL pays $3,600 for 1,975 square feet. Further, a gym owner in Glasgow, KY pays just $850 for 3,400 square feet, while an owner in Gilbert, AZ pays almost $10,000 a month for 3,800 square feet.
  • Similarly, for a larger facility in Ontario, one gym owner pays $9,000 for 8,000 square feet, compared to a gym in Louisville, KY, who pays $7,977 for almost 12,000 square feet.
