Preparing Her Athletes for the CrossFit Games with Michele Letendre

For Michele Letendre, coaching a CrossFit Games athlete is as much an art as it is a science.
“I would consider myself to be more on the creative side. I do like to try things out,” said Letendre, a six-time Games athlete, and Pat Vellner’s coach for the past five seasons.
In a sport as diverse as CrossFit, Letendre said she thinks one of her strengths is that she’s not afraid of “trial and error,” of experimenting with outside the box thinking, and taking some risks.
The proof is in the pudding: Vellner has finished podium at the Games three times under Letendre’s tutelage, while Letendre also coached Laura Horvath the first time she finished on the podium in 2018. Most recently, Letendre helped 23-year-old Australian athlete Ellie Turner qualify and place 26th at her first Games in what Letendre called a “surprise year” as they weren’t expecting her to qualify yet this year.
