Sara Sigmundsdottir announced that she has accepted an invite to compete at the upcoming Dubai CrossFit Championship December 16-18. This will be her first competition since tearing her ACL back in March.

One big thing: Sigmundsdottir has had a rough patch competitively over the past several seasons, suffering several injuries that have hampered her performance. But she’s managed to stage strong comebacks each time.

  • 2021: Ruptured her ACL. Out all season.
  • 2020: Suffered a bacterial infection during stage 1 of competition.
  • 2018: Fractured rib competing at the CrossFit Games.

The bottom line: While she’s accepted her invite, her status is still dependent on medical clearance and feeling prepared to put her body through the rigors of competition. She still has about two months and three weeks until Dubai kicks off.

  • Sigmundsdottir: “I am being closely monitored by my coach and physio’s and I will not take any chances. Fingers crossed that I will be ready. Only 2 more weeks of rehab and then we start working.”
