Brooke Wells Partners with Eight Sleep, Says Mattress is a “Game Changer”

Seven-time CrossFit Games athlete Brooke Wells has signed with Eight Sleep, the popular mattress company, joining fellow Games athletes Kristi Eramo and Baylee Rayl on the Eight Sleep team.

Remind me: Eight Sleep is known for their temperature control technology that allows you to set the temperature of your mattress, on each side of the bed, to sit between 55 F and 110 F. Further, their Pod Pro allows you to track key health and sleep metrics, such as heart rate and heart rate variability, during the different stages of sleep throughout the night, thus giving you a sleep score each morning.

Wells’ Eight Sleep Story

Wells started using an Eight Sleep mattress a little over a month ago, and “it has been a game changer,” she said. 

“I used to wake up multiple times in the night because I was uncomfortably hot, but now I sleep amazingly throughout the full night,” said Wells, who generally goes to bed at 9 p.m. and sleeps until around 7:30 a.m.

“Eight Sleep has taken my recovery to the next level. I am so excited to partner with them and help others find their best sleep.”

Eight Sleep co-founder Matteo Franceschetti explained it’s normal for athletes to be hotter than the average person, “so being able to cool down during sleep ensures that they can sleep throughout the night with no wake-ups due to heat,” he said.

In the past, being too hot at night meant, not just an uncomfortable night for Wells, but also a bad sleep was also something she felt in her training the next day.

“I can tell a significant difference between a good night of sleep and a bad night of sleep. I don’t have the extra push, can’t focus well, and all around I am not at the level of effort I can be when I am well rested,” Wells said. “There were many nights (before Eight Sleep) I felt restless, (couldn’t) get comfortable because my body is sore etc.”

Ultimately, since switching to an Eight Sleep mattress, Wells’ said her recovery has improved, and when we consider her recent Open performances—she was fifth in the world while still not 100 percent back to full form after suffering a dislocated elbow, torn flexor tendon and torn UCL at last summer’s Games—it seems more evident than ever that Wells is on track for a great 2022 season, something that wouldn’t be possible without great recovery. 

“You’re literally in bed for one third of the day, so why wouldn’t you do everything you can to make that pleasant, consistent and a good time for your body to recover. As an athlete, how well you train comes down to how well you recover,” Wells said. 

She added: “Eight Sleep has taken my recovery to the next level. I am so excited to partner with them and help others find their best sleep.”
