The 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games season will be heading overseas to Madrid, Spain to kick off its first workout. Hungary’s Laura Horvath, Poland’s Gabriela Migala, Serbia’s Lazar Djukic and Iceland’s Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson (BKG) will compete against one another for the first workout – 23.1.

The event will take place live at the Caja Mágica Stadium 3 on Feb. 16 along with a community heat of athletes from Full CrossFit, CrossFit Wezone PAC, and CrossFit Coraje. A limited number of tickets to the event will be available to the general public starting Friday, Jan. 27.

Remind me: The live Open announcement will kick off the 2023 CrossFit Games season and the world’s largest participatory sporting event. The announcements started in the 2013 season and grew in size and popularity through 2018. CrossFit elected not to host live Open announcements during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, but returned to host them in 2021.

One big thing: That the first Open announcement in 2023 is taking place in Europe makes a big statement about CrossFit HQ’s interest in investing in the region. Last year, the 22.3 announcement connected athletes in Iceland and the U.S. and this move appears to build on that momentum.
