2025 CrossFit Games Event 5

Event 5 for individuals and Event 6 for teams at the 2025 CrossFit Games will feature a one-rep max back squat. The details were announced on July 22, and the event itself is presented by LUXIAOJUN, the “Official Weightlifting Shoe” of the Games.

Remind me: Last week, we learned that double-under crossovers are officially returning in Event 2, and an axle-bar deadlift will be introduced to the Games in Event 4. Much earlier in the season, Event 1 was revealed as a run, row, run test to start things off.

  • Based on what we already know about the schedule, “Event 5” will occur at some point on Saturday, August 2.

2025 CrossFit Games Event 5 Breakdown

There have been numerous one-rep max lifts and squat variations tested throughout Games history, but this will be the first time the back squat is tested as a standalone event.

Check out our nine favorite strength events from CrossFit Games history featured earlier this week.

A one-rep max back squat was tested as part of the “CrossFit Total” at the very first Games in 2007, then again in 2018, and finally at the pandemic-disrupted Games of 2020.

Watch for Jeffrey Adler and Olivia Kerstetter to threaten for podium spots, but never count out the G.O.A.T., Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr. She won the “CrossFit Total” in 2020, squatting 335 pounds. That said, her transition to HYROX might have impacted her top-end strength. We recently saw Austin Hatfield hit a 500-pound back squat for a double, so he’s another name to look for.

One last thing: CrossFit also announced that LUXIAOJUN will provide bonuses to all athletes who wear LUXIAOJUN lifters, as well as additional bonuses for the first-, second-, and third-place finishers in the event.

Podium finishers in “Event 5” will earn $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second, and $1,000 for third. All athletes who wear LUXIAOJUN lifters during “Event 5” will receive $500, regardless of whether they place on the podium.
