Justin Medeiros and the “Relish Project”: A CrossFit Road Trip Along the California Coast

Ten years ago, three friends – Sun Chang, Zacq Hale, and Bob Daniels — set out on a road trip to connect with others in the CrossFit community.
- They called it the “Relish Project,” an opportunity to blend culture, travel, and CrossFit.
Now, a decade later, that mission is being revived with the addition of another friend, two-time CrossFit Games champ Justin Medeiros.
- It’s a road trip to celebrate the CrossFit spirit, as Medeiros makes his way to Southern California to compete in the second annual TYR Cup in Huntington Beach.
What Is the Relish Project?
To relish something means being fully present, grateful, and immersed in the moment. This trip aims to capture the essence of CrossFit through connection.
Over three days, this group of friends will travel along the California coast from Lodi to Huntington Beach, visiting gyms, participating in workouts, and documenting the stories that help these communities thrive.
- “Every day, amazing people are doing amazing things in CrossFit gyms. They all have stories that led them there that we want to share,” Medeiros told Morning Chalk Up.
The Route
The journey kicks off Monday, September 15, in Lodi at Fulcrum Fitness, where Medeiros started doing CrossFit with his family at 12 years old.
It will wrap up with a massive community workout on Wednesday, September 17, in Huntington Beach, where TYR Wodapalooza SoCal is set to take place.
Daily Goals:
- Three gym stops per day, including one “main” community feature and two additional drop-ins.
- Participating in classes, conversations, and capturing the affiliate vibe.
- Sharing behind-the-scenes content via YouTube and social media.
Key Stops:
- Monday, Sept. 15: Fulcrum Fitness in Lodi at 8:00 a.m.
- Tuesday, Sept. 16: Community event at The Ranch in Aromas at 9:00 a.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 17: Public workout on Huntington Beach with cold plunges and giveaways.
Who It’s For
Affiliate owners. Coaches. Everyday members. Fans.
- The Relish Project is designed to remind us all that CrossFit is less about elite fitness and more about shared struggle, transformation, and belonging.
Expect gym tours, interviews, class footage, and some unscripted moments that capture some of the real grit and joy within the walls of affiliates.
How to follow along:
- YouTube Series: Daily uploads from the road.
- Instagram Stories & Posts: Updates from each stop.
- Community Workouts: Public events at affiliates along the route, including on the sands of Huntington Beach.
Partners
Medeiros has a serious lineup of partners who believe in the vision and are contributing to make this trip happen.
- Gymreapers, R.A.D, Reign, XEndurance, YETI, GOWOD, Rogue, and Chilly Goat will all be chipping in to make it special. The trip will be full of giveaways.
Bottom Line
During his busiest competition season so far, Justin Medeiros gathered his crew to spotlight affiliates and communities that help people succeed.
The Relish Project aims to remind us of all the good happening every day and encourage us to take a moment to appreciate it.
