Scotland Gym to Hold Million-Meter Challenge for Charity

September 25, 2025 by

CrossFit Lùths is hosting an ambitious charity workout this weekend to benefit an organization that has played a vital role in helping a long-time member’s family.

The gym in Gorebridge, Scotland, is hosting the event from September 26 to 27 to support Crossbasket House at the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

  • Beloved CF Lùths community member Nathan Nicholas and his family have depended on Crossbasket House during his son’s challenging medical diagnosis.

In May 2025, Nathan and his wife Allison’s lives changed forever when their third child, Caleb, was born with a congenital heart condition. Nicholas has been a member at the gym since 2019.

  • “His diagnosis was a Double Inlet Single Left Ventricle, a transposition of the great arteries and a narrowing of the aorta arch,” said Nathan in a video posted on CrossFit Lùths’ Instagram.

It’s an incurable condition, but Caleb can undergo a series of surgeries to give him the best possible chance.

The family spent 10 weeks in the hospital, through Caleb’s two heart surgeries and over 50 nights in the intensive care unit. He will need two more surgeries before he turns five.

  • “As you can imagine, this was a very challenging time for us as a family, but there was one unbelievable charity that stepped in to provide us a home away from home so we could be next to our son every step of the way," Nicholas said.

The Crossbasket House allows Nathan and Allison to stay close to their son during his surgeries and recovery. The organization operates a facility that provides free accommodations to families with a hospitalized child, regardless of how long they stay.

  • “I already knew what Nathan and his wife Alison were facing with Caleb, so I immediately thought of getting them to select a charity that had helped them once Caleb was through the first of his surgeries,” Eilidh Harkins, owner of CrossFit Lùths, said in an email to the Morning Chalk Up

The event will involve rowing and biking a total of one million meters over a 24-hour period. It will start on Friday evening and continue into the weekend. The plan is to have two rowers and one bike, each with three or four athletes rotating every two to three minutes to keep a higher pace.
