“The Most Versatile Trainer Yet:” Meet the Nike Free Metcon 7
Nike Training is introducing “its most versatile trainer yet,” according to a recent press release.
The Nike Free Metcon 7 is designed for athletes of all levels, meeting the demands of a workout without sacrificing stability, mobility, or style.
- The press release goes on to say, “The latest iteration was updated to enhance midfoot containment, while keeping the famed Nike Free technology. The flexible forefoot and stable heel allow you to easily switch from dynamic movements to strength-based movements.”
Movement-Driven Flexibility and Locked-In Stability
Nike Free technology in the forefoot allows the shoe to flex naturally, generating power and enabling agility.
The flexible forefoot is perfect for functional movements and short runs.
A stable heel and secure midfoot containment help an athlete stay centered under load, leading to better form, greater confidence, and greater comfort when lifting.
The unique outsole holds traction in every direction. During workouts that involve pushing, planting, or changing direction mid-set, feet remain secure for better control.
Updated Aesthetic
The press release states that the updated design features “refreshed materials and modern lines; a dual midsole for durability and flexibility; a webbing lace structure to secure the midfoot, aligned with the midsole.”
Its silhouette is unique and stands apart from other trainers currently on the market.
Original features of the Free Metcon return with branding on the heel tab and toe Swoosh. The Free Metcon 7 is available in a range of bold and neutral colorways.
Our Take
In testing the Free Metcon 7, we loved the slightly elevated heel and extra ankle support that some other trainers lack. We took the shoe through an extended back squat cycle with both a heavy barbell and high reps. We took it for a spin on weighted box step-ups, dumbbell snatches, lunges, burpees (love the toe reinforcement), wall balls, and benchmarks like Grace and Isabel.
Our conclusion is that this shoe could be compared to a lifter for its support, stability, and heel lift, yet it is lightweight enough to take through a metcon. It could be placed in a category of its own, one many gym-goers have been waiting for. Taking on a couplet of rowing and wallballs? Or maybe squat cleans and double-unders? Maybe even Nancy? Meet your perfect shoe.
The Nike Free Metcon 7 is now available online and at select Nike and partner retail locations.
