The largest inclusive CrossFit competition in Europe is set to take place in Barcelona, Spain, this fall for its fifth iteration. From September 11-13, athletes with and without disabilities will come together to compete and celebrate fitness on the same stage.

Marc Gil, the 2017 Wodapalooza champion and founder of the nonprofit Limited Edition Athletes, launched the fitness festival in 2022 to bring a fully inclusive competition to Barcelona. The inaugural WODCELONA in 2022 hosted 800 athletes across more than 16 categories. In 2024, the event hosted 1,400 athletes, and this year Gil expects 2,300.

Held in partnership with Nike, Ecolab, and Fitness Park, among many other brand partners, WODCELONA is growing rapidly and seems to be doing everything right.

  • “Part of that growth comes from the natural consolidation of the event, but this year we have also decided to open our doors to another rapidly growing fitness community: hybrid racing. Through the launch of WODCELONA HYBRID, we expect to welcome hundreds of new athletes and spectators who share the same values of effort, resilience, and community,” Gil told the Morning Chalk Up.

Gil explains that WODCELONA HYBRID will bring together both Open and Pro athletes, helping to expand the event while maintaining the same standards of competition, experience, and community that have defined WODCELONA since its inception.

Their commitment to inclusion continues to attract athletes from all over the world.

Among the invited and confirmed athletes are:

  • Victor Hoffer
  • Mirjam Von Rohr
  • Luka Dukic
  • Bergros Bjornsdottir
  • Lucy McGonigle
  • Elisa Fuliano
  • Calum Clements
  • Aniol Ekai
  • Colin Bosshard
  • Enrico Zenoni
  • Sara Alicia

The team has a few additional names they will share in the coming months.

Lessons Learned

Gil explains that he learns something new every year.

  • “We actively collect feedback from athletes, judges, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and spectators. That continuous learning process allows us to identify opportunities for improvement across every area of the event,” Gil said.

One of the most valuable lessons is to prepare for unexpected situations, with the overarching goal always present: every year should be better than the last.

  • “More broadly, every decision we make is guided by a simple objective: creating the best possible experience for every stakeholder involved — athletes, volunteers, judges, partners, sponsors, spectators, and staff,” Gil said.

2026 Features

The main novelty is the event’s scale – the numbers they’re expecting blow previous years away, not only in participants but also in volunteers. The workforce is growing from 600 people in 2025 to 750 in 2026. And the implementation of WODCELONA HYBRID allows the team to welcome a new audience while staying true to their mission of celebrating fitness in all its forms.

  • As in every year, the competition will be broadcast via a professional live-streaming production and through local and regional television coverage.

For Nike, WODCELONA will also serve as a platform to showcase key initiatives, activations, and product innovations for the fitness community, reinforcing the event’s growing relevance in the global fitness ecosystem.

Fan Experience

Spectators will find larger activation areas, more brand experiences, and a stronger festival atmosphere throughout the venue. Experiences will be hosted throughout the week, transforming WODCELONA into a citywide celebration of fitness.

  • “Spectators will enjoy a large vendor village, brand activations, food and beverage areas, interactive experiences, and opportunities to connect with athletes and the broader fitness community,” Gil said.

Whether you are a competitive athlete, a fitness enthusiast, or simply curious about the sport, there will be something for everyone.

A Competition Set Apart

Beyond CrossFit, WODCELONA now unites multiple disciplines under one roof, including Adaptive Fitness, Functional Fitness, Hybrid Racing, and Weightlifting, creating a unique environment where diverse communities can connect, compete, and celebrate fitness together.

  • “In 2026, we expect more than 22 adaptive divisions and over 300 adaptive athletes from around the world,” Gil said.

What makes WODCELONA truly different is the combination of high-level competition, genuine inclusion, and a strong community atmosphere.

The Bottom Line

We asked Gil to define WODCELONA 2026 in one word, and he said it’s “community.”

What started as a CrossFit competition has evolved into something much bigger.

  • “We believe the future of fitness lies in creating spaces where different communities can come together, learn from each other, compete, and celebrate a shared passion for movement and performance,” Gil said.

He went on to emphasize that inclusion remains at the heart of everything they do. While the team celebrates year-over-year growth, Gil recognizes that WODCELONA is defined not by the number of athletes who attend but by the strength and diversity of the community it brings together.
