Overview
This week brought me to the historical City of Boston, where I dropped into the original CrossFit Boston, recently changed to CrossFit One Nation-Boston. The schedule and directions were right on the main page, so it was very easy to locate and choose a class time. Their schedule offers CrossFit, On-Ramp, and Open Gym with several other programs offered to their membership. One Nation-Boston has 200 members and affiliated in 2005, which makes it one of the original affiliates.
Upon arriving for class, I pulled up to a warehouse area to find a massive 4500 sq ft building with CrossFit One Nation ONLY parking, and the doors wide open to capture the fresh air. As I walked up to the door, I was greeted by a member who asked if I was dropping in, turned out to be the coach of my class. He immediately asked if I had any injuries and gave me a complete tour of their facility. I was thoroughly impressed with the overall cleanliness of every square inch of the facility, and each area of the gym was well organized and everything seemed to have its place.
The facility is completely outfitted with Rogue equipment (dumbbells, barbells, bumper plates, medicine balls, yoke, sandbags, boxes, sleds, etc.). There are also plenty of C2 rowers, SkiErgs, and BikeErgs for their athletes. There is also a small retail area with Ascent Protein, Kill Cliff, shirts and sweatshirts. The gym also had a full bathroom facility including a shower for those looking for these services. Additionally, they have a complete jump bag (first-aid kit) and an AED on the training deck, and all the coaches are certified in CPR, which was impressive since I am a paramedic.
How to drop in
The website was very informative and led me directly where I needed to be as a drop-in. You just pick your location and the calendar populates to pick your class time, payment, and finally an electronic waiver. This process was extremely easy as compared to other locations I have visited.
The workout
The programming is done by both Spencer Hendel and Austin Malleolo, referred to as the HAMPlan. Today was a benchmark workout Grace, which is 30 Clean and Jerks for time. Lucky to PR my time, 2:47 Rx. @ 135lbs.
Extras
CrossFit One Nation-Boston facilitates the following courses; CrossFit Level 1 CrossFit Level 2 and CrossFit Kids. They also host an annual competition, Team Work for Team Guys as well as supports a fundraiser for Last Hope K9 Rescue. Additionally, The WOD Doc has a treatment room located inside, a one stop shop at CrossFit One Nation-Boston!
