Jacob Heppner fans will be pleased that the three-time CrossFit Games athlete is confirmed to compete at the Mid Atlantic CrossFit Challenge April 12-14 in Washington, D.C. The Morning Chalk Up confirmed that he accepted his invite early this morning.
No word on whether Winston will make the journey.
Heppner took fifth in the online qualifier, his fifth sanctioned event qualifier this season. He had declined all his previous invitations.
Heppner hasn’t competed in any official CrossFit event since placing 11th at the 2016 CrossFit Games. He sat out in 2017 to recover from an injury and was unable to qualify for 2018 regionals due to a controversial new standard on handstand push-ups.
Heppner outlined his plan to qualify for the games through the CrossFit Open in a video back in November.
“My goal right now is to get top 20 in the Open,” Heppner said in the video.
The Mid Atlantic CrossFit Challenge is the first sanctioned event after the Open. It appears Heppner is hedging his bet on the Open by having backup plans in place should he fail to qualify through the Open.
