In the first drug testing announcement following Semifinals, CrossFit revealed that two team athletes–Hunter Williams of Team CrossFit CLT and Jaylond Franklin of CrossFit Shoofly Storm Squadron–provided post-competition urine samples that included banned substances.

From the announcement:

  • “Hunter Williams of Team CrossFit CLT provided a sample that contained GW1516 sulfoxide, a metabolite of GW1516, at the Syndicate Crown on May 22, 2022.”
  • “Jaylond Franklin of CrossFit Shoofly Storm Squadron provided a sample that contained GW1516 sulfoxide and GW1516 sulfone, metabolites of GW1516, at the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge on May 29, 2022.”

Both athletes have appealed the results, and these findings remain unofficial until the appeal process is completed. It may not be well-known, but CrossFit only selects, at random, two athletes from each team to test at the Semifinal stage.

If the appeal fails, the athletes will receive a four year suspension and their teams will be ineligible to compete in the 2022 CrossFit Games.
