In an unfortunate turn of events, we’ve just learned that France’s Willy Georges – the 9th fittest man in the world and two-time reigning fittest man in France – has just withdrawn from the CrossFit Strength in Depth after just two events due to illness.

I spoke with his coach Facundo Etchecolatz, who informed me it was something Georges has been battling in the lead up to the event.

“He got a virus last week and he thought he was going to feel better but that’s not the case,” Etchecolatz clarified. “He feels weak and doesn’t want to risk getting injured.”

At the time of his withdrawal, Georges sat in 14th place overall, after struggling through the first two workouts to start the weekend, including Open workout 19.1 to start the competition.

Georges – who finished third worldwide in the Open in 2018 – finished 19.1 with 362 reps, which currently would place him 40th worldwide in the workout.
