We’re still two weeks out from the Filthy 150 – the first sanctioned event of the 2019-2020 season — but the Torian Pro in Brisbane, Australia this weekend is the ideal curtain-raiser before the “official” season kicks off.

What’s at stake: Winner takes home $5,000 AUD with the total prize purseapproximately $20,500 USD ($30,000 AUD). Compare that with potential earnings at other events this season – Torian is really about bragging rights and putting on a show.

Ones to watch: The real entertainment will be the impressive caliber of CrossFit royalty – including Fittest Woman on Earth Tia-Clair Toomey – completing 20.5 on Friday Night from 7pm (AEST). Rich Froning will continue to compete alongside Australia’s Royce Dunne in the Pro Pairs division on Saturday and Sunday, as well Mayhem Freedom’s Tasia Percevecz and Chyna Cho.

The seventh Fittest Man on Earth Matt McLeod headlines a vast array of former CrossFit Games athletes in the individual divisions including Khan Porter, Zeke Grove, Maddie Sturt and Courtney Haley.

Last minute withdrawals: It’s not great timing for several athletes – including Australia’s Kara Saunders – on the cusp of punching a ticket to the 2020 CrossFit Games through the Top 20 in the Open. Already Katelyn Van Zyl (who qualified through the Top 20 last year) has withdrawn from the competition to focus on the final qualifier workout.

If their performance in Event 1 – 20.5 – on Friday night isn’t ideal, athletes risk writing themselves off for redo off the back of two days of competing.

UPDATE: Kara Saunders has withdrawn from the competition to focus on her final week of the Open.

The events: Unlike past years at the Torian Pro – where competitors were taken off-site for a trail run and swim event – this year’s new venue limits the programming to more traditional CrossFit events and those that have been announced with favor big lifters, with a strong gymnastics focus (plenty of muscle-ups!)

How to watch: CrossFit Torian will livestream all events on Youtube.
