Melanin CrossFitters Hosts All-Inclusive Competition, Workouts Released Today
Melanin CrossFitters, an organization dedicated to supporting, uplifting, and assisting people of color in the CrossFit community, is hosting a virtual competition this month called “The BLACKOUT.” The competition is an all-inclusive fall throwdown with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the Destined for Greatness Youth Outreach Center.
One big thing: During the tumultuous summer months for the CrossFit community, athlete Lesley Henderson-Sanders created a virtual space for people of color within the CrossFit community to connect and share stories and experiences. The Melanin CrossFitters group has continued to grow and is now hosting it’s first major event.
The details: Registration for the event opened on October 31 and will remain open until November 29. Final scores are due that day at 8 PM ET. Registration is $25 per individual until November 14, when the price will increase.
- There are four divisions, each with a male and female category: Advanced, Intermediate, Beginner and Adaptive.
- Prizes will be awarded to the top two male and female athletes in each division. First-place winners for the Advanced male and female category will receive a Cali shorty Barbell and a full set of bumper plates. (Only eligible for shipping in the United States.)
- Video submissions will be required to be eligible for the top two prizes in all categories. Video submissions must show the athlete at all times, show the movement standards, show the weights used, and a timer in the background. The best apps for submission are WODProof or WeTime.
The bottom line: Melanin Crossfitters’ mission is to serve diverse communities, provide access to nutrition information, physical fitness education, and wellness resources. Their goal is to promote life-long health and wellness, encourage varied exercise, and share knowledge about proper nutrition. Melanin Crossfitters is committed to enriching the lives of those who avail themselves of its services and facilities.
