CrossFit LLC’s General Manager of Sport Dave Castro revealed their intention to launch a “follow along Games at home for the fans” in conjunction with this summer’s CrossFit Games.

  • “Our team’s probably going to snap at me for talking about it,” said Dave Castro, while speaking live with commentators Chase Ingraham and Tommy Marquez at the Granite Games in Eagan, MN Friday afternoon. But this didn’t stop him from providing some hints at what this competition will look like for the greater CrossFit community.

The details: The competition will be an online version of the Games that you can do in your garage gym or at an affiliate. As long as you have CrossFit equipment and can do “simple CrossFit movements,” you can participate, Castro explained.

  • The intention is to create a “stiff weekend of competition” for the entire community to tackle, providing all those who love CrossFit an opportunity to “earn the badge” of having completed a “mini Games weekend,” he explained.
  • “We’re going to program accordingly,” Castro assured. This means “Open-like programming” in terms of its accessibility and movement difficulty. Regardless, the weekend, which will include multiple workouts a day, will still be “a huge challenge,” he added.

The big picture: The idea is to create an experience for the entire community, where “once a year, everyone and anyone can do their Games at home at the same time their favorite athletes…are doing it at the Games in Madison,” he said.
