After submitting his final two scores at the CrossFit German Throwdown, 27-year-old Andre Houdet spent the evening trying to convince his family not to be too sad that he didn't qualify to the CrossFit Games this year.

“My mom, dad, sister, grandmother, fiancé and all our dogs were there...and I basically did a presentation for them explaining that I’m not going to make it this year, but that it’s OK...They were all crying on my behalf because I didn’t think I made it, but I said I’m going to step it up next year and I will never stop until it happens,” Houdet explained of how he had given up on his chances of being in the top five.

Houdet had gone into Day 3 of the online Semifinal in seventh place. And as he and his family were waiting for the final leaderboard to be posted on Sunday night in Denmark, Houdet and fellow competitors Luka Dukic and Alex Kotoulas shared their scores with each other from the final two events. Dukic and Kotoulas were two competitors Houdet knew he needed to beat, and both of them had been faster on Event 5.
