“Alright so week one we went with the nails. Week two was the nose piercing. And we’re taking it up a notch this week and getting…tattoos!” Alison Scudds told fans on her Instagram story last Wednesday afternoon while standing next to her coach, and head of Underdog Athletics, Justin Cotler.

“It may or may not be real ones, let’s be honest,” Cotler told me later that night. “But it was definitely something fun for us to do.”

Scudds competed at the Atlas Games Semifinal this past weekend (June 10-12) in Montreal and while we were thrilled to watch her duke it out with some of the fittest women in the world to try and punch her ticket to the CrossFit Games, we were equally as excited to see Cotler, head of Underdog Athletics, cheer her on.

If you’ve been watching the last four weeks of Semifinals, you couldn’t help but notice Cotler near the finish line, purple-faced and arms in the air, every time one of his athletes takes the floor. But, it’s the support outside of competition that makes the coach-athlete relationships through Underdog Athletics seem so special.
