Icelandic Star Thuridur Helgadottir Talks About her Secret Recovery Sauce
There’s something in the water in Iceland, and there has been for a while.
The country with a population of a little over 350,000 has produced a disproportionate number of CrossFit Games athletes through the years, including champions Annie Thorisdottir and Katrin Davidsdottir, as well as veterans like Thuridur Helgadottir, Sara Sigmundsdottir and Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson.
Turns out, the secret sauce to their elite fitness might just be a little three-in-one hydration, nutrition and fast recovery tablet called Unbroken RTR that many of these Icelandic and international stars have been dissolving in their water, and that they say makes a big difference when it comes to their recovery, not just after training sessions, but during.
What is Unbroken RTR?
Unbroken RTR’s product is an effervescent tablet that you just add to your water bottle, made from fresh Norwegian salmon with natural citrus flavour.

Why is Unbroken so effective for fast recovery?
It all comes down to nutrient timing. The post-workout period, i.e. the “anabolic window” is often considered the most critical part time to enhance muscular gains and recovery through nutrition. But when the body is under stress, it is difficult to properly digest intact protein and the nutrients cannot be well absorbed by the body. Why? The average intact protein source sits between a molecular weight of 20,000 and 30,000 Dalton.

What is unique about Unbroken is it is made by taking the natural enzymes to break down the protein molecules. Unbroken has an extensively hydrolyzed protein with average molecular weight of 375 Dalton. The result is the availability of 25 free-form amino acids including the 9 essential amino acids and BCAAs.
This revolutionary process was created by scientists 20 years ago. This Fast Absorption Study by the Norwegian School of Sports Sciences in Oslo, Norway demonstrates the fastest absorption of amino acids to the bloodstream– significantly faster than whey protein and offering ideal nutrient timing for muscle re-generation and recovery.
In addition, there are naturally high levels of Vitamin B12, Zinc and Selenium helping athletes to boost their immunity.
Why Helgadottir Takes Unbroken

Helgadottir, who placed third at the recent CrossFit Strength in Depth Semifinals and will be competing in her seventh Games this summer, has been taking the product for two years, but officially only became an Unbroken athlete earlier this season.
“I started taking one in the morning, and two or three during the day and then one before bed, and I finally got my first three green days in a row in my recovery on my Whoop app, and this was the only change I made. My nutrition, stretching and sleeping routines were consistent versus the previous week.”
She said she has noticed a huge difference in her recovery since taking Unbroken.

“I have felt less soreness and improved wellness,” Helgadottir said.
She added: “In May, I changed how I take Unbroken after feedback from the Unbroken team. I started taking one in the morning, and two or three during the day and then one before bed, and I finally got three green recovery days in a row on my Whoop app, and this was the only change I made. My nutrition, stretching and sleeping routines were consistent versus the previous week.”
CrossFit and Unbroken: The Perfect Match
Today a huge range of athletes in Iceland currently take their product, including the National handball and soccer teams, as well as cyclists and runners, but their first focus has been CrossFit, as it’s an optimal product for the CrossFit athlete, both elite and lifestyle ones, because the sport is all about recovery.
Because CrossFit athletes’ bodies are under such stress. They’re constantly pushing their limits. They’re trying to tap into their greatest potential.
Unbroken is a unique product on the market that can give athletes the fast absorption and the muscle nutrition needed during their actual workout, not just before and after, but as the athletes are actually pushing their limits.
