Friday morning at the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games started by athletes storming the Capitol building in Madison, WI, in what can only be described as an iconic event, and one that wasn’t without drama.

The details: Haley Adams all but dominated the event, which started with 20 350-pound pig flips followed by a 3.5-mile run to the Capitol.

  • Adams, who started the day in fifth, continued to motor along way ahead of the field during the 200-meter Jerry bag carry, so much so that color commentator, aerobic capacity coach Chris Hinshaw joked: “I think honestly she wants to beat the boys.”
  • But it all came to a halt when Adams got her hands on the 150-pound Husafell Bag carry. She struggled to go more than just a few steps without dropping the implement, and by the end she had a hard time even picking it up again. So there was Adams, standing on the final set of stairs at the Capitol, stopped dead in her tracks just a few feet from the finish line.
  • Gabriela Migala was the first to take advantage of Adams’ misfortunes, passing her and taking the event win. Laura Horvath was next, followed by Tia-Clair Toomey and then Brooke Wells.

Worth Noting: Toomey’s third place finish on The Capitol was just what she needed to take the lead for the first time all weekend. She leads Mal O’Brien by two points and rookie Emma Lawson by 20 points heading into event six.
