Drug Testing and Appeals Delaying Prize Payouts in Four Semifinals

Prize purse payouts are delayed in four of the 10 Semifinal events from the 2022 CrossFit Games season. The Morning Chalk Up confirmed with multiple athletes and teams from each of the four Semifinals that have yet to receive prize payouts for top finishes in competitions held last May and June, more than four months ago.
- Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Championship
- Fittest in Cape Town
- Far East Throwdown
- Syndicate Crown
One big thing: The news comes just a week after revelations that two off-season competitions are also delaying podium payouts inevitably due to financial troubles. Failed drug tests and appeals, however, are the “main reason” for the delays according to a CrossFit spokesperson.
- CrossFit Games rulebook section 4.14: “Prize money will only be released once drug test results have been confirmed.”
Worth noting: Even though outside organizations ran the event operations for these competitions, CrossFit HQ is responsible for issuing prize payouts, not the organizer. This stands in contrast to the two most recent situations reported concerning CanWest and the European Championship.
