How to Host the Perfect Summer Throwdown: Start with Logisitics

June 19, 2023 by

Summer means the return of beach trips, barbecues, white shoes, and perhaps most important for the CrossFit community, the good old-fashioned summer throwdown.

Hosting a summer throwdown provides the perfect opportunity to go above and beyond for your members and give them the opportunity to showcase their fitness all in the name of friendly competition.

Besides a catchy name, there are four key elements you’ll want to think through in the planning process.

  • Logistics: The technical elements of the competition. This includes the equipment, space, and other resources you have available.
  • Programming: The actual workouts you're going to have the athletes do.
  • Finances: How you’re going to make the dollars work in your favor. While you might not be making much of a profit, you certainly don’t want to be in the red.
  • Press & Communications: How you’re going to get the word out, as well as how athletes perceive your competition.

In the first part of this series, we will discuss logistics and the questions you need to ask yourself before hosting the competition.
