When Laura Horvath dominated Test 2 “Pig Chipper” at the Games yesterday, not only was it not a surprise, it was in fact expected. And she did not disappoint.

Since 2021 she has shown why she has been the favorite to win every event with odd-objects, whether it’s a yoke, sandbag, or Pig.

Over the past 3 years at the Games there have been 10 odd-object events (3 in 2023 so far) and Laura Horvath has finished 3rd or better in every single one of them

  • 2023 “Ski-Bag” (Sandbag squats): 1st
  • 2023 “The Alpaca Redux” (Sled push, Kettlebell Clean and Jerks): 2nd
  • 2023 “Pig Chipper” (Pig flips): 1st
  • 2022 “The Capitol” (Pig flips, Jerry Can carries, Husafell carries): 2nd
  • 2022 “Sandbag Ladder” (Heavy Sandbag to shoulder lifts): 3rd
  • 2022 “Alpaca” (Sled push, Kettlebell Clean and Jerks): 1st
  • 2022 “Back Nine” (Yoke carries): 1st
  • 2021 “Event 2” (Sled drags, Pig flips): 3rd
  • 2021 “Event 5” (Sandbag carry): 1st
  • 2021 “Event 13” (Cheese curds over hay bale, Yoke carry): 3rd

That is five wins out of ten events, meaning it is accurate to say that she has a 50% chance of winning any odd-object event at the Games

In fact, Horvath is so good at odd-objects that she took 2nd in “The Capitol” last year, which involved 3.5 miles of running. Usually long distance running events are not her best performances, but thanks to the heavy pig flips, 200-m Jerry bag carry, and 200-m Husafell carry she had a great finish.

2023 CrossFit Games

This year her time in Test 2: “Pig Chipper” (13:50) was not only :53 faster than the second-place woman Arielle Loewen (14:43), it was also :38 faster than the fastest man Roman Khrennikov (14:28). In “Ski-Bag,” she dominated the women’s field, finishing in 4:36, 21% faster than second-place finisher, Alex Gazan.

Over the past couple of years at the Games there have been three or four odd-object events per year and we have only tested one so far this year and with three so far in 2023, Horvath has once again used them to her advantage with two test wins and a second-place finish.
