Six-Time Champ, New Mother Tia-Clair Toomey Hasn’t Felt “This Much Fire” Since her Rookie Season
After winning her sixth CrossFit Games last year, the CrossFit community was led to believe that Tia-Clair Toomey was retiring.
- “For the sixth time and for the final time, Tia Toomey is the Fittest Woman on Earth!” said announcer Sean Woodland on the live feed.
But then, in a post-competition interview, Toomey’s response to the question of whether or not she would be back was a little more ambiguous: “That’s the question. We’ll see,” she said. This was followed up in a press conference with, “Well technically I didn’t announce my retirement…I’ll just keep you guys guessing.”
In the following months, we tuned in to Toomey’s pregnancy journey on social media, a journey that looked full of fitness, fitness most that most non-pregnant women could never imagine expressing. And this fitness seems to have ramped up since giving birth to her daughter Willow in May, leaving us to use deductive reasoning to assume Toomey is planning a comeback.
This just in: “I have never had this much fire since I was a rookie,” Toomey said today while watching the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games in Madison, WI.
Though she still won the Games last year, she wasn’t as dominant as past years perhaps, and she “definitely walked away very unsatisfied with my performance last year,” Toomey said, adding that a couple months after the Games last year she felt the fuel to make her want to do another year. And being in Madison this week watching the individuals has added to her drive, she said.
- “I’m a little envious…I just want to go out there and be with them,” Toomey said.
There’s little doubt in anyone’s mind Toomey will have no problem doing just that.
