Seven-time CrossFit Games champion Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr raced on Saturday, June 14, at the 2025 HYROX World Championships in the Mixed Doubles alongside James Newbury but later pulled out of her planned race in the Women’s Pro Doubles Elite 15 with partner Joanna Wietrzyk.

While a specific reason wasn’t given, we were told by multiple sources that Toomey-Orr was dealing with an illness that caused her to withdraw.

Remind me: Toomey-Orr has taken up HYROX racing in recent months and has already put the sport on notice. She and her mixed doubles partner, James Newbury, qualified for the World Championships this season in the 30-39 age division. She also qualified for the Women’s Pro Doubles Elite 15 with Joanna Wietrzyk.

  • The HYROX World Championships 2025 were held in Chicago, IL, where 4,500 athletes concluded the season over four days.

Toomey-Orr and fellow CrossFitter Newbury finished fifth in their division with a time of 56:01 on Saturday. Gabriella Moriarty and David O’Toole finished first with a time of 54:36.

Later in the day, we learned that Toomey-Orr would not race in the Pro Doubles Elite 15 with Wietrzyk. Lauren Griffith and Lauren Weeks came away with the win at 54:58.

Here are the top five finishers:

Note: When Toomey-Orr and Wietrzyk last competed in a doubles division HYROX race, they finished at 54:24, which would have been the top time at the World Championships.

While training for the HYROX World Championships, Toomey-Orr has also continued to train throughout the 2025 CrossFit Games season. Most recently, she qualified for the Games at the Torian Pro, which was an In-Person Qualifying Event (IPQE) held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

  • Toomey-Orr finished the competition at the top of the podium, securing her 10th Games spot and continuing her domination of the sport.
  • She has focused much of her recent training on HYROX racing and has signaled she is stepping away from elite CrossFit.

The Games will likely be the next time we see Toomey-Orr compete…if she accepts the invitation.

The 2025 CrossFit Games will be held in Albany, NY, from August 1 to 3. Tickets are on sale now
