Which 2021 Games Absentee will Make Biggest Impact at Rogue?

With the season’s first off-season “major” approaching at the end of the month, we’ve already addressed how a majority of these athletes competed at the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games. But, there are also three athletes, two men and one woman, competing at Rogue, who missed out on the Games this past summer:

  • Ben Smith and Samuel Kwant both failed to qualify out of the MACC Semifinal
    • Smith simply didn’t do well enough on the competition floor that weekend
    • Kwant and his camp (CompTrain) sited a previously undisclosed medical condition that affected his performance that weekend
  • Kari Pearce qualified out of the West Coast Classic, but was ultimately prevented from competing due to Covid

All three athletes have received, and accepted, invitations to Rogue. For Smith and Pearce this will be their second appearance at Rogue (Pearce was 6th in 2019, Smith was 14th in the same year). This will be Kwant’s first time competing at a Rogue event.

The question we want to ask today is, which of these three athletes is most likely to place highest at the 2021 Rogue Invitational.

MUST WATCH: The State of Primary Care discussion between CrossFit CEO Eric Roza and Dr. Julie Foucher, co-founder of CrossFit Precision Health:

  • Foucher: “Right now a lot of it is driven by your insurance system. So with our insurance system primary care doctors are reimbursed based on how many patients they see ever day so it really incentivizes them to see more patients in less amount of time. So the average primary care visit is less than 20 minutes and because of all the

CrossFit Brings More than 500 Affiliates Back in Last Eight Months

CrossFit Brings More than 500 Affiliates Back in Last Eight Months

Last February at CrossFit LLC’s Quarterly Town Hall, owner and CEO Eric Roza said he expected 500 affiliates, who had either disaffiliated or let their affiliations lapse in the aftermath of the Greg Glassman fallout, would return to the CrossFit community within the upcoming weeks.

  • Eight months later, “more than 500 gyms (have) re-affiliated since that point,” a CrossFit spokesperson told the Morning Chalk Up this week.
  • “We continue to communicate on an ongoing basis with former affiliates to address their concerns and share the resources, benefits and support available from rejoining the community,” he added of their ongoing efforts to bring gyms back.

Remind me: Roza also reported at February’s Town Hall that—thanks to team members who sent out more than 10,000 emails and made 2,500 phone calls to owners who had let their affiliations lapse or had disaffiliated—they had already managed to bring 1,000 gyms back into the community at that point.

One big thing: Despite more than 1,350 affiliates promising to disaffiliate from CrossFit after Glassman’s tweets in June 2020, today there are more than 13,000 affiliates worldwide in good standing, “more than when the company was purchased last year,” the spokesperson said.

The big picture: The CrossFit brand was undoubtedly tarnished in 2020, but if today’s affiliate numbers say anything about current support for the company, it’s safe to say much of last year’s rust has already worn off. And CrossFit is hoping the new initiatives they have been rolling out in recent months will only help to further strengthen the community.

  • “In particular, we’re highlighting the wide range of tools that CrossFit is rolling out to strengthen their businesses and add value, including recent initiatives like the Affiliate Playbook, Affiliate Roundtables and CrossFit Affiliate programming,” the spokesperson said.
